Mishkan Among Us

"Seeing in his spirit of prophecy that the time would come when the משכן, 'Mishkan' (the Sanctuary) would cease to exist and the Shekinah would dwell no more in Israel's midst, Moses was anxious to know by what means the sins of his people would then be expiated. The Almighty vouchsafed the information that He would choose a righteous man from their midst, and make him a משכן (pledge) for them, and through him their sins would be forgiven." - Exodus Rabba 35

  1. The Sages speak about the pure awesome sight of the first Temple and how much greater then the 2nd Temple it was. One of Key elements missing from the 2nd Temple was the Divine Presence/Shechinah! So how can the glory of the 2nd Temple be greater then the first?

Haggai speaking about the 2nd Temple says:

"The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the LORD of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares the LORD of hosts.’” - Haggai 2:9

The Shechinah dwelled in the most Holy place and once a year the high priest would come in to offer for the sins of the people. While the Shechinah was indeed missing from the Temple, it was in another. The Shechinah walked the streets of Jerusalem and lived among His people as none other then the long awaited Redeemer Moshiach!

Haggai goes on to say: "And in this place I will give peace, declares the LORD of hosts.’”

Yeshua said: "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid." - John.14:27;Phil.4:7 (The Prince of Peace).

    Moshiach is the very Shechinah!

  2. Wonderful thought, of course. Shekhinah is derived from the verb shekhan, meaning to dwell with or inhabit, so it is a beautiful picture of Immanuel, "G-d with us".

"A certain Sadducee said to Rabbi Chanina: Now [that you have been exiled], you are certainly impure, as it is written: "Her impurity is [visible] on her hems." (Lamentations 1:9). He [Rabbi Chanina] said to him: Come see what is written regarding them: [The Tent of Meeting] that dwells among them in the midst of their impurities. Even in a time that they are impure, the Divine Presence is among them." ~ Talmud Tractate Yoma 56b

"..but G-d shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Messiah died for us." ~ Romans 5:8
